During the stop, the suspect, who had been a passenger in the vehicle, exited the car and, without warning, began firing upon the officers. The precise number of shots fired remains under investigation, but Chief Drew confirmed that both officers sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

The injured officers, whose identities have not been publicly released to protect their privacy and safety, were immediately transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center. Chief Drew reported on Tuesday that both officers underwent surgery and were listed in critical but stable condition.
